Boxspring or slatted bed frame: which suits you?

The biggest difference is not the look but how your body is supported at night.

Two ways to sleep

A boxspring has three layers: a sprung box, a mattress and often a topper. A slatted bed frame only has a mattress on wooden slats.

Why a boxspring feels better

  • The springs in the box absorb your weight before the mattress has to, so the mattress lasts longer.
  • You lie higher (60–70 cm), which makes getting in and out easier.
  • The topper gives a soft, hotel-like comfort.

When a slatted frame is enough

For a guest room or a child a slatted frame can be fine. For your own bed, 8 hours a night, a boxspring is the better investment.

Our tip

Come and lie down in the showroom. Five minutes on a good boxspring says more than any article.
